Motorists in Niagara Falls should prepare for evening travel disruptions as the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) begins essential infrastructure maintenance. In a statement released Thursday, officials confirmed that Niagara Falls Boulevard, located beneath the I-190 overpass, will undergo a series of nightly closures to facilitate ongoing bridge repairs.
According to the NYSDOT, the southbound lanes are scheduled to close nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. These restrictions will commence on Tuesday, April 14, and are expected to conclude by Friday, April 17. The department has confirmed that detours will be clearly posted to guide drivers around the construction zone during these hours.
The necessity for these repairs dates back to an incident on November 13, 2025. At that time, a commercial vehicle transporting a shipping container struck the overpass, resulting in significant damage to the structural steel girders. This latest phase of work is part of a continued effort to restore the integrity of the bridge and ensure the safety of the Western New York regional transport network.
